The Witcher Season 2 Production Resuming Date Revealed!
The Witcher Season 2 production had to stop due to the COVID-19 outbreak, like the many other movies and TV shows. But today we have good news. The production team of The Witcher has announced the resuming date. Netflix halted ongoing productions of the series in March due to the outbreak.
Even a month before The Witcher premiered on Netflix, the series was renewed for a second season.
The Witcher Season 2 Production State
As we mentioned earlier, currently production is halted of The Witcher Season 02. But today they sent out the good news via twitter.
According to the tweet, Witcher Season 02 production will resume on 17th August this year (2020). Also, as suggested by Witcher himself Henry Cavill, the first quarter of 2021 is likely to be the earliest a second season could arrive. Netflix has not announced any official release date so far.
Back in April, Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich provided fans with their first, official photo from the set.
The image did not reveal or spoil any hidden details of The Witcher Season 02. But it did make it clear that the next season of the series is on the minds of its creative team.
The Story of Season 02
As Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in early January that the season would likely unfold in a more straightforward narrative way. Though many people liked the 1st season, some had a hard time understanding the season. That’s because of the multiple, parallel timelines that comprised most of the first season’s story arc.

The first season of The Witcher was heavily inspired by The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny story-lines. Those are two collections of short stories that were set prior to the events in author Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher Saga. These stories were more like a prequel and mainly focused on exploring the backgrounds of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri — and how their paths initially crossed.
In am interview with ComicBook.com, that held in December, series executive producer Tomek Baginski indicated something. He said that the series couldn’t fit all of the content from those collections into the first season. This has led to speculation that the second season will deliver the rest of those seminal adventures while beginning. Also, parallel, it will start to explore the events of the main saga.
Still, nothing has been confirmed officially. There is a possibility that the second season of the show could take the trio’s story in some unexpected directions.
Who’s back of The Witcher Season 2?
Series stars Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan will return to season 2. They will reprise their roles as Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, respectively.
Netflix have released a list of actors that joining to the Witcher cast. According to them,
Hivju was the fan-favorite character Tormund Giantsbane in the Game of Thrones. Cursed nobleman Nivellen is his character in season 2 of The Witcher.
